Electrical & Electronics technology

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering opened its doors to the first group of Advanced Diploma students in 2012. From the academic year 2012/2013, the department introduces two Advanced Diploma programs:

  • Electrical Technology and
  • Electronics and Telecommunications.

The Advanced diploma program takes 3-years.

And one VTC (Vocational Training Center) program in:

  • Domestic electrical installations

The VTC program takes 1-year.

MISSION

The mission of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of IPRC SOUTH is to enhance the position of the EEE Department as one of the top ranked teaching and research departments in Rwanda by providing the highest quality teaching and learning environment for the students and thus producing the competent and compassionate EEE graduates fully equipped to achieve the highest personal and professional standards.

Our intentions are:

  • To contribute to the advancement of science and technology in diverse fields of electrical and electronics engineering
  • To produce top quality technicians who
  • are equipped with information and skills required by the modern era, and,
  • have problem solving and analytical thinking abilities
  • To support the technological advancement of Rwanda by cooperating with industry sector.
  • To produce internationally recognized Electrical and Electronic Engineering graduates with ability to compete on the international labor market.
  • Develop and maintain relevant electrical engineering oriented programs in response to the needs of the labor market
  • To enhance research and innovation.
  • To become a center of excellence in training, research and innovation in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
  • To promote the spirit of self-reliance among the graduates by providing required entrepreneurship skills to them.
  • To conduct community outreach activities in order to contribute to the social-economic development of the surrounding population.

Facilities and Staff

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has highly trained and qualified staff complemented by well-equipped laboratories and workshops. There are also computer facilities within the department in addition to the institution computer rooms. The institution main library stocks a wide range of textbooks and journals relating to Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The department has the following laboratories and workshops:

  • Electrical Machines, Lab., Power Systems.
  • Basic Electrical Lab.,
  • Electronic Workshop.
  • Control lab.,
  • Computer lab and
  • Installation workshop.

Research areas

Currently the members of the department are organized into eight (8) research groups. These research groups are as follows:

  • Power Electronics and Machine Drives
  • Power Systems and High Voltage Technology
  • Energy Studies
  • Semiconductor and Magnetic Materials
  • Control Engineering
  • Domestic and industrial Electrical Installations
  • Software Engineering

Research work is supported by excellent facilities in the labs as wells as established computing services in the department.
